September 9, 2026 | The Right Slice, Kalāheo
Since Hurricane Lowell passed Kauaʻi, we’ve heard from so many friends, customers, former visitors and people on the Mainland who love this island.
Again and again, you’ve asked us the same question:
“How can we help?”
First, mahalo.
It means more than you probably realize to know that while our little island is picking up branches, clearing roads, waiting for electricity to return and checking on neighbors, there are people thousands of miles away thinking about Kauaʻi.
Many people across our island are still dealing with the effects of the storm. Some remain without power and other basic services, and recovery isn’t going to happen overnight.
If you’ve been wondering what you can do from afar, we’d like to share two ways you can help right now.
❤️ Donate Directly Through Mālama Kauaʻi
For those who would like to make a direct charitable contribution toward helping Kauaʻi, we encourage you to consider Mālama Kauaʻi.
Mālama Kauaʻi is a local nonprofit organization that has been serving our island community for many years. Their work focuses on strengthening Kauaʻi’s food system, supporting local farmers, improving food access and building a more resilient island community.
Right now, those efforts are especially important.
You can learn more about Mālama Kauaʻi and make a donation directly through their website:
We encourage you to donate directly through Mālama Kauaʻi rather than sending charitable donations through The Right Slice.
As recovery efforts develop and we are able to verify additional legitimate organizations and programs helping our island, we’ll add additional suggested donation opportunities here.
We want to be thoughtful about the links we share. Disasters can unfortunately also bring questionable fundraising efforts, so we would rather take our time and recommend organizations we can verify.
🐾 Don’t Forget Kauaʻi’s Animals
Our island’s animals need some aloha right now, too.
The Kauaʻi Humane Societyprovides shelter, care and support for animals throughout our community. Emergencies and extended power outages can create additional challenges for pets, their families and the organizations caring for animals in need.
If helping Kauaʻi’s four-legged residents is especially close to your heart, please consider making a donation directly to the Kauaʻi Humane Society.
Your support helps them continue caring for animals and serving Kauaʻi’s pets and families during a time when our entire island community is recovering.

As with Mālama Kauaʻi, we encourage you to make your contribution directly through the Kauaʻi Humane Society so your support goes straight to the organization.
Every member of our island community deserves a little extra care right now — including the ones with paws. ❤️🐾
🥧 Want to Help Feed Someone? Send a Pot Pie.
There is another very direct way you can help.
Buy someone on Kauaʻi dinner.
The Right Slice is accepting pot pie orders from customers who would like their pie to be given directly to someone in our community affected by Hurricane Lowell.
You purchase the pot pie.
We’ll make it.
And instead of putting your name on it for pickup, we’ll put it into the hands of someone here who could use a meal.
It’s that simple.
How to Donate a Pot Pie
Visit:
Then:
1. Choose the pot pie you’d like to purchase.
Select your pot pie just as you normally would when placing an order with The Right Slice.
2. Select “Kalāheo Bakery” as your pickup location.
Even though you won’t personally be picking up the pie, choosing our Kalāheo Bakery location tells our staff where to process the order.
3. In the Order Notes box, write:
DONATE TO HURRICANE LOWELL COMMUNITY
That lets our staff know immediately that this isn’t a regular pickup order.
4. Add a short personal message if you’d like. ❤️
This part is completely optional, but we’d love for you to participate.
Along with your donation instruction, leave a few words for the Kauaʻi community.
Maybe it’s:
“Sending aloha from Oregon.”
Or:
“Our family visits Kauaʻi every year. We’re thinking of you.”
Or simply:
“Kauaʻi, you are loved.”
Whatever you’d like to say.

❤️ We’re Making a Community Bulletin Board
We don’t want those messages to disappear into our online ordering system.
We’re going to put them up on a bulletin board here at The Right Slice.
We want the people coming through our bakery to charge their phones, use our internet, get some ice or simply spend a little time somewhere with electricity to be able to read them.
A reminder that people are thinking about them.
A reminder that people who have visited Kauaʻi and fallen in love with this place haven’t forgotten about us.
A reminder that our community extends far beyond the shores of this island.
So when you order your donated pot pie, please consider adding a few words of encouragement.
We’ll make sure they’re seen.

🥧 What Happens to My Pot Pie?
We’ll take it from there.
The Right Slice will prepare your purchased pot pie here in Kalāheo and give it to someone in our community who has been affected by Hurricane Lowell.
The recipient will not be charged anything.
Our goal is very simple:
One donated pie = one meal we can put into the hands of someone who needs it.
As circumstances change over the coming days, we’ll adjust how and where those meals are distributed so we can put them where they’ll do the most good.
A Small but Important Distinction
Purchasing one of these pot pies through The Right Slice is not the same thing as making a charitable donation to a nonprofit organization.
You’re purchasing a product from our bakery and asking us to give that product to someone affected by Hurricane Lowell.
If you’re looking specifically to make a charitable contribution, please use the Mālama Kauaʻi information above.
If you’d rather simply buy somebody dinner, we’d be honored to help you do that.
❤️ Three Different Ways to Send Aloha to Kauaʻi
So, for everyone who has contacted us asking what you can do:
Want to contribute directly to a local nonprofit helping strengthen and support Kauaʻi?
Please consider Mālama Kauaʻi.
Want to put a meal directly into the hands of someone affected by Hurricane Lowell?
Visit www.rightslice.com/order, order a pot pie for pickup at our Kalāheo Bakery, and write DONATE TO HURRICANE LOWELL COMMUNITY in the Order Notes.
And don’t forget your message.
We’ll add it to the wall.
From Kauaʻi, Mahalo ❤️
There is a long road ahead for some members of our island community.
But there is also something pretty remarkable happening.
Neighbors are helping neighbors.
Utility and road crews are working incredibly hard.
People who have power are helping people who don’t.
People with generators are sharing electricity.
People are checking on kūpuna.
Businesses are finding ways to use whatever resources they have to help.
And people thousands of miles away are asking:
“What can I do?”
That matters.
Whether you make a contribution, purchase a meal, send some words of encouragement, share reliable information or simply keep Kauaʻi in your thoughts, thank you.
We’re going to keep doing what we can from our little bakery in Kalāheo.
And we’ll continue updating this page with additional verified ways to support Kauaʻi as legitimate recovery efforts and donation opportunities become available.
From all of us at The Right Slice:
Mahalo for loving Kauaʻi.
Mahalo for thinking about our community.
And mahalo for helping us take care of one another.
With aloha,
The Right Slice Team
Kalāheo, Kauaʻi
