Traditional Favorite With A Lilikoi Twist

There are certain foods that don’t need much of an introduction. Banana bread is one of them. It’s simple and it’s comforting. It smells amazing while it’s baking, and somehow a slice of banana bread feels perfectly acceptable for breakfast, an afternoon snack, dessert… or all three.  But here at The Right Slice, we started thinking: What if we took traditional banana bread and gave it a little taste of Kauaʻi? That’s how our Lilikoi Banana Bread came to be. We start with fresh, locally grown apple bananas. If you’ve spent any time on Kauaʻi, you probably already know how special these little bananas are. They’re sweet, flavorful and absolutely delicious and when they’re baked into banana bread, they bring plenty of natural banana flavor to every bite. Then we add the part that makes our banana bread a little different.  Sweet, fresh and tangy Lilikoi baked right into the banana bread, so you get that wonderful tropical flavor throughout.

You get the familiar sweetness and comfort of traditional banana bread first, followed by that unmistakable lilikoi flavor a little sweet, a little tangy and just bright enough to make you want another bite. It’s banana bread…but definitely not the banana bread you grew up eating. And that’s exactly what we love about it. We didn’t want to completely reinvent a classic. Sometimes the best foods are the ones that remain simple. Instead, we wanted to take something familiar and give it a little island personality using flavors and ingredients that feel at home here on Kauaʻi. Of course, one of our favorite parts is being able to use locally grown apple bananas. Supporting local growers whenever we can is important to us, but there’s another reason we love using them they taste GOOD! 🍌

Our Lilikoi Banana Bread is wonderful with a cup of coffee in the morning, makes an easy afternoon treat, and is perfect to grab before heading out for a day of exploring Kauaʻi. Bring some to the beach, take it on a hike, share it with the family, or bring it back to your hotel or condo for later. Although we should probably warn you about that last one. You might have every intention of saving it for later…and then decide you need just one little bite. And then another. You know how that story ends.
