Does anyone else feel like August flew by? It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming the month, making plans for beach days, family barbecues, road trips around the island, and soaking up every last bit of summer. Now, somehow, we’re looking at the calendar wondering how September is almost here. Time has a funny way of doing that. The days can sometimes feel long, especially when life gets busy, but the weeks seem to disappear before we even notice. That’s why this time of year is a wonderful reminder to slow down for just a moment and appreciate the memories we’ve made.
Maybe your August was filled with adventure. Perhaps you explored a new hiking trail, spent lazy afternoons at Poʻipū Beach, watched a breathtaking sunset from the west side, or wandered through the Kapaʻa Art Walk. Maybe you spent Wednesday evenings strolling through the Kukuiʻula Culinary Market, discovering local businesses, talking story with friends, and enjoying everything our island community has to offer. Or maybe your month looked a little different. Maybe August was about getting the kids ready for school, balancing work schedules, taking care of family, or simply making it through another busy month. Sometimes those ordinary days become the ones we treasure the most.

We’ve seen families stop in after a long day at the beach with sandy feet and sun-kissed smiles. We’ve watched grandparents introduce grandchildren to their favorite pie, saying, “You’ve got to try this one.” We’ve heard visitors tell us that stopping at The Right Slice has become part of every Kauaʻi vacation, and we’ve welcomed local customers who know exactly what they’re ordering before they even reach the counter. Think about some of your favorite memories. Chances are that food was somewhere in the picture. Maybe it was your grandmother’s kitchen, a holiday meal, a backyard barbecue, or a favorite restaurant you still visit today. We rarely remember just what we ate we remember who we were with, what everyone was laughing about, and how that moment made us feel. That’s why homemade food still matters.
