A Few Changes Ahead…

Owning a small business means constantly adjusting. Some weeks are busy, some weeks are quiet, and sometimes you simply don’t know what the next week is going to bring. Right now, customer traffic has been much more difficult to predict than usual. Rather than waiting and hoping business returns to normal quickly, we believe the responsible thing to do is make a few temporary changes now. Our goal is simple: control our costs, reduce food waste, protect as many staff hours as possible, and keep our bakery doors open.

Over the next few weeks, you may notice a smaller selection when you visit The Right Slice. We will be limiting some of the items we prepare each day, including reducing the number of fresh pot pie flavors available. At our farmers market events, you’ll also notice a change. For the time being, we will be bringing frozen pot pies instead of our usual selection of fresh pot pies. They are still the same pot pies we make at the bakery just frozen so you can take them home and bake them when you’re ready. We know it can be disappointing to walk through our doors looking forward to a favorite pie only to discover that we don’t have it that day. We understand, and we truly appreciate your patience with us.

One of the hardest parts of running a bakery is trying to predict how much to make. We want our pie cases to be full and have plenty of choices for everyone, but when customer traffic slows or becomes unpredictable, making too much can mean unnecessary food waste and higher production costs. And as a small business, those things add up quickly. By making a smaller and more carefully planned selection each day, we can better match our production to the number of customers coming through the door. It helps us control costs, waste less food, and most importantly, do everything we can to continue providing hours for our staff. These changes are temporary. As business picks back up, we hope to begin adding more choices back into our daily selection.

And remember, a smaller daily selection doesn’t mean you can’t get your favorite pie! If you know there is something you really want, please order ahead. Ordering ahead helps us plan our production and gives you the best chance of getting exactly what you came for. Small businesses go through good seasons and difficult seasons, and we have always been incredibly grateful for the people who continue to walk through our doors. Every pie you purchase matters. Every pot pie you take home matters. Every order, farmers market visit, recommendation, Facebook share, and kind word matters more than you probably realize.
