September 9, 2026 | The Right Slice, Kalāheo
The last couple of days have been difficult ones for our little island.
Hurricane Lowell brought damaging winds, heavy rain and high surf to Kauaʻi. Across the island, trees and power lines came down, roads were blocked by debris, coastal areas were damaged, and thousands of our neighbors woke up without electricity.
Crews are working throughout the island to assess and repair an extensive amount of damage. Some power has already begun to return, but we know many of our friends, customers, employees and neighbors are still waiting.
And somehow, The Right Slice got lucky.
We have power.
We have water.
We have internet.
And today, that makes us think less about what we can sell and more about what we can share.
❤️ Our Doors Are Open to Our Community
If you’re without power or internet and can safely get to Kalāheo, you’re welcome to come see us.
You do not have to purchase anything.
Really.
We’re fortunate enough to have resources that many people on Kauaʻi don’t have right now. If we can share a little electricity, internet, ice, water or simply an air-conditioned place to sit for a while, that’s what we’d like to do.
🔌 Charge Your Devices
Bring your phone, tablet or other essential device and your charging cord.
If you happen to have a power strip or surge protector, bring that along too. It will help us accommodate more people.
Charge up, send some messages and let the people who are worrying about you know you’re okay.
📶 Use Our Internet
Our internet is working, and we’re happy to share it.
If you need to contact family, communicate with your employer, check official storm information, deal with insurance, make arrangements or take care of other necessary business, come use our Wi-Fi.
We do ask everyone to please be mindful of how you’re using it.
We’re trying to make the connection available to as many neighbors as possible, so this isn’t the day for streaming movies or gaming. Please keep usage to essential communication and necessary tasks so there’s enough bandwidth to go around.
📞 Need to Make a Call?
If your cell service isn’t working and you simply need to let somebody know that you’re okay, please ask us.
We’ll make our bakery phone available for short check-in calls when we can.
Sometimes a two-minute phone call saying “We’re okay” can mean everything to somebody thousands of miles away.
🧊 We’ll Share the Ice We Can Make
We have an ice machine.
Unfortunately, it’s a little ice machine!
We’ll share small quantities of ice as quickly as our small machine can keep up. We won’t be able to fill big coolers or provide large quantities because we’d rather give a little bit to many households than have all of it go to only a few.
Please be patient with us if the machine can’t keep up with demand.
We’ll keep making it.
💧 Drinking Water
If you need drinking water, bring a jug or other appropriate container and we’ll share limited quantities while we’re able.
We know water is an especially important resource right now, so we’re going to be careful with it too. We’ll help where we can while also doing our part to conserve.
🪑 Or Maybe You Just Need Somewhere to Be
You don’t necessarily need to come in asking for anything.
Come sit down.
Cool off.
Charge your phone.
Connect to Wi-Fi.
Check on family.
Have a conversation.
Talk story.
After a storm like this, sometimes having a place with electricity and familiar faces for an hour is helpful all by itself.
And again: you don’t have to buy anything.
We’re not doing this to get people through the door to make a sale.
We’re doing it because we have something our neighbors need, and sharing it seems like the right thing to do.
⚠️ One Very Important Request: Please Don’t Risk Your Safety to Get Here
As much as we’d love to see you, please only drive to Kalāheo if it is safe to do so from wherever you are.
Conditions can be completely different in another part of the island. There may still be debris, downed trees, flooding, road closures and other hazards.
Please don’t drive through flooded roads, go around barricades or approach downed power lines.
Nothing we’re offering is worth risking your safety to get here.
If the roads around you aren’t safe, stay where you are.
We’ll be here when you can safely reach us.
This Is Going to Be a Day-by-Day EffortWe don’t really know what to expect today.
We don’t know how many people will come through our doors, how quickly we’ll run out of ice, how much water we’ll be able to share, or what needs we’re going to discover as the day goes along.
So we’re going to learn as we go.
Everything we’re offering is while supplies, space and our capacity allow.
We’ll post updates on our Facebook page throughout the day so you can see what’s currently available before making a trip.
And if we discover there are other ways The Right Slice can safely help, we’ll look at those too.
❤️ To Everyone Working to Put Kauaʻi Back Together — Mahalo
There are a lot of people who don’t have the option of sitting this one out.
Utility crews are working to restore power. County and state crews are clearing roads. Emergency personnel, first responders and countless other workers and volunteers are doing what needs to be done.
And all over the island, neighbors are checking on neighbors.
People are moving branches.
Sharing generators.
Checking on kūpuna.
Passing along information.
Offering what they have.
That’s Kauaʻi.
The Right Slice happens to have electricity, water and internet today.
So that’s what we have to give.
❤️ And to Our Friends Off-Island…
We’ve
already heard from people who love Kauaʻi and are watching from afar, wondering what they can do to help.
We’re working on something.
We’ll have more to share about that soon.
For now, if you’re on Kauaʻi, please take care of yourself, check on your neighbors and listen to official guidance.
And if you can safely make your way to Kalāheo and could use something we have:
Our doors are open.
With aloha,

OUR FAVORITE THINGS
Wow! You can’t ask for better neighbors then that!! We will be coming by. Originally we were planning on visiting Kauai the 17th. We’re watching the recovery carefully. Depending on the sentiment of Hawaiians effected, may reschedule. I understand your needs, but also know small businesses need sales. God bless you for your kindness.
